I was flying today with my Yuneec Q500 4K in Mytilene, Lesvos island, Greece and suddenly without reason auto-landing has been activated. Battery was half full (around 11.5V) and not even one low voltage warning had taken place. It was not a loss of signal nor automatic Return-to-home activated. The drone was close to me, I had good signal and the only explanation is low voltage without telling me so. I had run all pre-flight checks and nothing seem to be wrong. First thing I checked when I saw the drone was going down, was the mode switch. It was not in home mode. It was still in Angle mode.
The great part is that once I realized the drone was started going down, in autolanding mode , I saw I had no up-down control. Luckily I could still control the direction, so I pushed full back towards me at the port dock and managed to bring it back right at the last moment before it goes into water. If it was 10 centimeters lower the drone would have been drown.
I feel very grateful and happy I acted calm and fast.
The only damage was 2 propellers.
Everything else was fine!
For the record, I had just replaced the sd card with a full day of flying and recording in various locations, just in case something went wrong!
